Why Franchising ?

Having explained what we do I am sure that some of you will be thinking “Why don’t I just go and buy a few footballs and do this by myself?” “ What do I need a franchise for?”

Firstly let us assure you that these are perfectly sensible questions to ask yourself. However (as you might expect) we can put up a strong case as to why operating under a franchise model has major benefits versus starting up on your own. What’s more we have the facts to prove it!

Firstly let us give you some background facts on franchising in the UK. All of this information was taken from the industry survey that is conducted by The British Franchise Association (who are the franchise industry’s governing body) and NatWest Bank.

Franchising Facts are as follows;

• The total value of franchising to the UK economy is over £17 billion per annum
• There are over 900 different franchises operating in the UK (probably more than you
  realised!)
• Over 700,000 people are employed in franchised businesses (almost definitely more than
  you realised!)
• The biggest growth area in franchising is the provision of a personal service which is exactly
  what we do at Little Legs
• Almost one third of franchisees operate their businesses from home (as you would do as a
  little legs franchisee)

Perhaps the most compelling reason to buy a franchise however is the success rate of franchised businesses versus independent start – ups.
Franchises have a 0.9% commercial failure rate compared to independent start ups where over 50% of the business started fail to last 5 years. One of the benefits of this extremely low failure rate is that the High Street Banks tend to like franchise models and are much more likely to lend money to get started if you are replicating a proven system that if you were starting from ‘scratch’.
